Students with Reading Difficulties
Diagnostic Testing
To identify students in need of special instruction, speech therapists use diagnostic techniques; most are qualitative and not supported by statistical evidence.
Instruction for Children with Reading Difficulties
There are no reading specialists at schools to assist students who have difficulty with reading. Regular classroom teachers use different materials with students of different reading levels, especially for children with reading disabilities. Some instructional materials for primary school include supplementary materials for use with students with reading disabilities within the regular classroom.
The school speech therapist may provide additional special lessons two to three times per week for children with reading disabilities. The speech therapist organizes lessons for two groups: one for children with dysgraphia and dyslexia, and the other for children with general speech deficiencies.6
In Moscow, there are several schools for the visually impaired and blind (correctional boarding schools). The language programs in these schools are aimed at teaching students writing and reading in braille. The training course provides for the formation of the subject presentation, ability to work with the relief schemes of grammar, narrative drawings, and other special teaching materials.
