Language and Literacy
Classical Arabic is the official language of the Sultanate of Oman and the language of teaching and learning in all government schools. In everyday communication, different dialects of Arabic are used. English is taught as a subject starting in first grade and is used as the language of instruction in some private and bilingual schools. Other spoken languages in Oman include Swahili, Baluchi, Lawati, and Mehri.1
