Students with Reading Difficulties
Diagnostic Testing
No single method or test is used to diagnose students’ reading problems; rather, diagnosis usually is the responsibility of the teacher. Speech therapists often are available to help students with reading, writing, or speech problems.
Instruction for Children with Reading Difficulties
Throughout the primary grades, students with reading difficulties often are allowed extra time for instruction after formal lessons. This makes it relatively easy for teachers to provide extra reading help or attention to students who need it. Methodological guides also are available to assist teachers in instructing students with reading difficulties. Students with severe reading difficulties who have been issued a statement of commission including a list of pedagogy and medicine specialists can be assigned to a special learning program that can be integrated in a general classroom or implemented in a special education classroom or special education institution.
